GENDER ISSUES
Putting all emotions aside, as a scientist and creationist, it is my view that there are only two ways of dealing with gender confusion for the vast majority of people:
1. Biological reasoning
2. Apostolic doctrine
Every person and situation is unique. May the Holy Spirit guide us in our daily walk as we are confronted by unavoidable situations or conversations.
Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.
(Luke 21:14-15)
BIOLOGICAL REASONING
A rewarding approach to research that has served biologists for centuries is the close knit relationship between structure and function. This is true at both the macro and micro scale. The anatomical structure of the heart is perfectly suited to pump oxygenated blood around the body. ATP, the high energy molecule that energizes almost everything in our bodies, is largely synthesized within the minute mitochondria whose anatomy is perfectly suited to prevent short-circuiting of electro-chemical gradients without which no ATP could ever be generated. We would all collapse into a heap if it were not so. Structure complements function.
Sex in humans, animals and plants is only possible because there are male and female parts specifically and elaborately constructed and regulated so that a male sperm can meet up with an egg cell in the ovary of the female anatomy. Sexual reproduction, by definition, requires the co-operation between a male and a female just like an electric current can only exist between positively and negatively charged areas. One is a donor, the other is a receiver. Two males if left to themselves will cease to exist in time - ditto for two females. We would have become extinct long ago, but for the laws of nature. Romans Chapter 1 discusses how He has taught us spiritual things through nature. They are clearly there for us to read the signs so that we will have no excuse or leg to stand on.
Diverse sexual activities existed long before Jesus and the apostles came on the scene. Concerning acceptable behaviour before God, the apostle Paul would have used this phrase many times in his teachings, 'Does not even nature teach you'?
APOSTOLIC DOCTRINE
What does nature or technology teach us about appropriate sex? We use electrical plugs and sockets daily in our homes charging our mobile phones or iPads for instance. Over the counter at an electronics shop, I have been asked, 'What sort of plug will you need Sir, male or female'? We instantly know what is meant. God will never allow us to escape the fact, which is why we shall never have an excuse before Him.
Now that we have considered the natural let us consider the spiritual.
All have eternal existence, but who gives us spiritual life? None other than God the Father through Jesus Christ, through the shed blood of the Lamb of God (John 3:16). Jesus is the donor or giver of eternal life, we are the receivers. We can give nothing to Jesus in return except our praise, thanks and love. We cannot give Him life. The traffic is one way.
This is the reason why the word of God likens the church to a bride, and Jesus to a bridegroom. The physical analogy is perfect for the spiritual reality.
God is merciful if we repent of inappropriate and non-biological sexual behaviours! He invented sex and it is His prerogative how we are to use it! God-given pleasure is derived from the intimate and proper relationship between a man and a woman: "There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I do not understand: The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea and the way of a man with a virgin. This is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says, 'I have done no wickedness"' (Proverbs 30:18-20).
"Don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God's kingdom? Do not be deceived: no sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers or anyone practicing homosexuality, no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God's kingdom. And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God" (1Corinthians 6:9-11).
"or the sexually immoral and homosexuals, for kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and for whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching" (1Timothy 1:10).
"But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death" (Revelation 21:8).
